Jake Tapper Compares Missing Trump Binder To Hillary’s Emails

A CNN investigation into a classified folder that went missing during the Trump administration had Jake Tapper speculating that the situation seemed more egregious than Hillary Clinton’s private email server.

As a candidate for president in 2016, Donald Trump famously coined the chant “Lock her up!” at his rallies over the emails.

Reporter Jeremy Herb explained what was in the missing binder.

“It contained a massive collection of documents related to the FBI’s investigation into the Trump campaign and Russia, including this highly classified intelligence, that was about Russia’s attempt to meddle in the 2016 election,” Herb said.

Cassidy Hutchinson wrote in her book that she saw the binder in the possession of former boss Mark Meadows. Through his attorney, Meadows denied mishandling any classified information.

“When it comes to national security and the upcoming presidential election, how big a deal is this binder should it get into the wrong hands?” Tapper asked.

Reporter Katie Bo Lillis said, “Some of the information contained in it were so sensitive that congressional officials were only allowed to view it at CIA headquarters, and that it had to be kept in a safe at Langley. But the real issue is that this binder contained what are known as ‘sources and methods,’ some of the most sensitive information the government possesses.”

She went on to say that mishandling the information could cost lives.

“I’m flashing back to 2016,” Tapper said after interviewing the reporters. “And I seem to recall one of the main arguments against Hillary Clinton was Republicans saying that she was allegedly careless with classified information by using this private email server. And I’m not saying they were even wrong, but that was one of the arguments and they seemed to care quite a bit about this and how it could expose assets to horrible things. I’m not a national security expert, I’m just a journalist, but this seems worse than what Hillary Clinton was accused of doing as Secretary of State.”

“It’s a thousand times worse,” said Olivia Troye, former homeland security advisor to Mike Pence. “I was in the national security community when all of those conversations about Hillary and the emails were going on. I was upset about that. I had some concerns about it. I was like, you know, we should be taking this seriously, especially when it comes to our country’s leaders. But this is on a whole other level.”
