InMotion Hosting ties for No. 8 on our rating of the Best Web Hosting Services of 2024. Founded in 2001, InMotion Hosting has offices in Los Angeles, California; Denver, Colorado; and Virginia Beach, Virginia.

InMotion Hosting offers several service options, including shared hosting, dedicated hosting, VPS hosting, WordPress hosting, and reseller hosting. It also provides a website builder to let anyone create the type of website they want using a simple “drag and drop” method. Shared hosting starts as low as $8.99 per month with a three-year deal. Its most basic plan includes two websites, 100 GB of storage, 10 email addresses, and unlimited monthly bandwidth.

InMotion Hosting offers shared web hosting services for as low as $8.99 per month with a three-year contract. Each service plan includes a free SSL certificate, unlimited bandwidth, and at least 100 GB of storage. InMotion Hosting’s storage availability is among the most generous of the services we rated, as most competitors offer 50 GB or less to start.

While some competitors tend to limit monthly traffic for WordPress sites, InMotion Hosting not only provides unlimited bandwidth to customers, it claims to have optimized site speed so that website owners with WP Core plan should expect pages to load at least ten times as fast.

InMotion Hosting provides a generous amount of storage, bandwidth, websites, and email accounts as you upgrade, and most hosting plans are geared toward at least an annual agreement. With the exception of VPS and dedicated server hosting plans, InMotion Hosting’s lower-tier deals can only be purchased if you agree to at least a one-year contract.

Though its annual agreements may provide discounts, not making the lower tiers available outside of annual contracts might not make InMotion Hosting as scalable as other hosting services. InMotion’s VPS and dedicated server hosting plans are more scalable, since those plans allow month-to-month payments with all plans.

If you prefer to test InMotion Hosting before making any long-term commitments, it has a series of money-back guarantees for its hosting plans. All shared hosting plans come with a 90-day refund window, as do VPS and reseller hosting plans of six months or more. For dedicated server plans and all monthly VPS or reseller plans, you have a 30-day window for getting a refund.

InMotion Hosting’s plans are on the higher end of the companies in our rating, but the many different options allow you to choose the level of service and features that can best meet your individual needs, whether it’s more power and control, numerous websites, or a desire for unmetered traffic. Below are the plans and prices offered by InMotion Hosting:

A WooCommerce-based WordPress hosting plan is also available, provided you sign up for InMotion Hosting’s WP Launch, WP Power, or WP Pro tier plans. If you aren’t sure how to design your WordPress website, InMotion Hosting provides a website builder, stating that its “drag and drop” feature lets you have your site ready to go in as little as an hour. The tool lets you develop responsive websites, even without coding knowledge.

You also have the option to upgrade your dedicated servers to cPanel management for an extra $40 per month.

GreenGeeks and InMotion Hosting offer shared, VPS, WordPress, and reseller hosting plans, though InMotion Hosting’s plans are currently slightly less expensive month-to-month. InMotion Hosting’s servers are located in the United States, while GreenGeeks has servers in the United States, Canada, and Europe.

Between the two, InMotion Hosting’s services are more scalable in terms of power and performance thanks to its VPS and dedicated server plans.

GreenGeeks operates with an emphasis on providing an eco-friendly service. GreenGeeks offers a 300% green energy match when you sign up for a hosting plan. The money you pay is also the equivalent of one tree planted. InMotion Hosting also looks out for environmental causes. It has helped plant over 5,000 trees worldwide and is reportedly dedicated to reducing its overall carbon by 2,000 tons per year.

Both offer discounts when you sign up for at least a year of service. However, while GreenGeek’s lower tiers have a month-to-month agreement, only InMotion Hosting’s higher plan is available for monthly service.

GreenGeeks has a 30-day money-back guarantee. Certain InMotion Hosting plans also have a 30-day window, but if you agree to a six-month plan for specific hosting packages, that window expands to 90-days.

GoDaddy and InMotion Hosting both provide shared hosting, WordPress hosting, VPS hosting, dedicated server hosting, and reseller hosting services.

Both companies emphasize annual contract deals, with service plan agreements for up to three years. InMotion Hosting’s lowest tier shared hosting plan is priced at $8.99 per month for three years. GoDaddy’s three-year contract also starts at $8.99 per month.

Though you must sign in to GoDaddy and begin the check-out process to change your hosting package, you still have the option to upgrade should you not go with a yearly contract. If you start monthly, GoDaddy’s plans are less expensive at $10.99 per month for the shared Economy package. InMotion Hosting’s shared Pro tier plan, the lowest tier available at a per-month rate, begins at $27.99.

GoDaddy offers free professional email hosting for a year if you purchase WordPress hosting or upgrade one of its Web Hosting Plus plans. InMotion Hosting provides at least 10 email addresses to start as part of a service agreement.

If you want to test out your service before committing, InMotion Hosting’s money-back guarantee is more forgiving overall, ranging from 30 to 90 days depending on the service plan. GoDaddy’s refund options vary depending on your location, and you’ll need to commit to at least an annual plan to get a 30-day refund window. Otherwise, GoDaddy’s refund extends to 48 hours.

InMotion Hosting provides five types of website hosting services, each divided into three or more tiers. Please note that the shared, WordPress, and WooCommerce hosting options are priced for annual contract agreements.

The hosting types are as follows:

Shared Hosting: InMotion Hosting’s shared service starts at $9.99 per month. Its most basic plan covers two websites and provides a free SSL certificate, 100 GB storage, and unlimited monthly bandwidth.

WordPress Hosting: WordPress website hosting costs as little as $11.99 per month. Its structure is similar to shared hosting, except it includes a complimentary lifetime SSL certificate, native backups and migrations, and site speed and performance at least 10 times better than what’s expected. You can incorporate WooCommerce into your WordPress website for all tiers except WP Core.

VPS Hosting: This cloud-based and managed hosting option is designed for high-performance, with prices starting at $59.99 per month. Service plans include at least 2 CPU cores, 4 GB RAM, 90 GB SSD storage, a free SSL certificate, 5 cPanel licenses, and a minimum of 2 dedicated IPs.

Dedicated Hosting: InMotion Hosting’s dedicated server hosting is split between “Bare Metal” and “cPanel Managed” plans. Pricing starts at $129.99 per month. The most basic package offers 4 Core / 8 Thread Intel Xeon E3-1246 v3, 16 GB RAM, and 1 GB per second of unmetered bandwidth. You can also choose your own operating system.

Reseller Hosting: InMotion Hosting allows you to run your own web hosting service through a series of tier plans beginning at $29.99 per month. Get a free dedicated IP, at least 25 cPanel accounts, a minimum of 80 GB of storage, and 800 GB of bandwidth.

While InMotion Hosting technically doesn’t require a contract for its services, shared and WordPress hosting tiers are restricted. To access the three lower tiers, you must sign up for at least a one-year agreement. Otherwise, you can only access the most expensive tier on a month-to-month basis.

If you are confused about how to get started with InMotion Hosting, the company has an instructional blog to help you set up a website using its service. After settling on a domain name, you choose a hosting plan according to your budget and needs. If you don’t use WordPress as a content management system (CMS), InMotion Hosting offers other management systems such as Joomla, Drupal 9, and Moodle. If you have a WordPress plan, you can either select a free WordPress theme and add content or use the website builder to “drag and drop” features until you create your ideal website for launch.

InMotion Hosting recommends using its free BoldGrid WordPress Website Builder for developing your website. It claims to take as little as an hour to create your preferred website using the tool’s “drag and drop feature.” With the website builder, you can create a responsive website that works for mobile and desktop visitors without using code. This tool is available specifically for WordPress.

For anyone needing advice on website creation, InMotion Hosting offers instructions through a series of tutorials. You can choose your own WordPress themes if you are a bit more knowledgeable about site creation.

InMotion Hosting offers domain names for sale, but if you agree to a shared hosting plan, you can get a domain for free for a year. You can also transfer a domain you already own at no additional cost. The free domain option isn’t offered with any other web hosting services, so if you need to register a domain with InMotion Hosting, you will pay about $19.99 per year on average.

You can create a .com, .net, .biz, .info, .us, or .org website. If you want more variety and a lower fee, you could be better off purchasing your domain name elsewhere and parking it for free.

InMotion Hosting’s web hosting services come with a wide variety of features. However, you do have the option to purchase certain add-ons. For instance, you can buy a dedicated SSL certificate for $99.99 annually with a $25.00 installation fee. Domain names cost $19.99 per year. Other perks come when you upgrade to higher service plan tiers.

InMotion Hosting supports e-commerce through shared, VPS, and WordPress hosting. For WordPress, e-commerce is specific to WooCommerce. Although it provides a separate page to set up a WooCommerce hosting plan, what’s featured is the WordPress hosting plans found elsewhere on the site. InMotion Hosting supports WooCommerce for all WordPress tiers, except the most basic WP Core plan.

Separately, you can create an e-commerce version of the shared and VPS plans. E-commerce hosting starts as low as $8.99 per month with a three-year contract.

InMotion Hosting offers SSL certificates across every service plan, with the option to purchase 256-bit encrypted Comodo SSL certificates for $99.99 per year through your account management panel or AMP. The SSL is part of a “security suite” that InMotion Hosting provides its customers.

Other notable security features include protection against malware, DDoS attacks, and hackers. InMotion Hosting also makes automatic backups available.
