At the Faculty of Physics, Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics, the Chair of Nuclear Physics offers a position as

Research Associate / Postdoc (m/f/x)

(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

starting on January 1, 2024. The position is initially limited to 3 years and can be extended by up to 3 additional years. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG). The position aims at obtaining further academic qualification (usually habilitation thesis).

The Chair of Nuclear Physics is engaged in measurements of the rarest nuclear decays and the corresponding development and characterization of high-purity radiation detectors. Our research focuses on the determination of physical properties of atomic nuclei, lepton flavor physics and neutrino physics with special emphasis on neutrinoless double beta decay.

Tasks: The selected candidate is expected to play a leading role in a significant part of the research spectrum of the Chair of Nuclear Physics. This includes co-supervision of PhD students and students as well as writing of third-party funding proposals. The position includes teaching at university level and contributions to the academic organization of the Chair of Nuclear Physics.

Requirements: university and PhD degree in physics, or an equivalent qualification; an integrative and cooperative personality with high teamwork abilities, self-motivation skills and organizational talent; interest in fundamental research on a broad range of topics in nuclear and neutrino physics; experience in advanced data analysis techniques and knowledge of modern computing languages (e.g. C++, preferably also ROOT-framework, Geant4-framework); ability to work in a research environment and prepare research results for publication and presentation at scientific meetings; aptitude for outstanding research work and for coordinating a research group; aptitude for independent teaching in German and English. Knowledge of working with high-purity detectors (e.g. HPGe) and digital signal and data processing is desirable.
