AFL 2023L Brownlow Medal image reveals Channel 7 star Abbey Gelmi’s relationship news with Kane Lambert

Channel 7 sports presenter Abbey Gelmi has revealed her engagement to former AFL player Kane Lambert in a series of images from Monday’s Brownlow Medal night.

In five photos posted to Instagram in the hours before she shared hosting duties for Channel 7’s broadcast of the prestigious AFL awards night, Gelmi showed off a diamond engagement ring of her left hand.

While her caption “Brownlow with @7afl” gave nothing away – the final photo in her upload showed her hiding her face behind her hand with her engagement ring clearly evident.

The relationship reveal quickly made waves on social media with friends and colleagues all congratulating the sports presenter on the news.

“Just waiting for everyone to notice the ring,” Tayla Broad, wife of Richmond player Nathan Broad, wrote.

“Yeahhhhhhhhhh baby!!!!!!!” Channel 7 journalist Emma Vosti wrote

“Wowowowowowwwwwww,” wrote Channel 7 presenter Estelle Griepink.

“Stun. Stun. Stun,” sports presenter Georgie Tunny wrote.

Gelmi’s relationship news comes six months after she announced the birth of Luis James Lambert, her first child with Lambert.

“Our hearts are so full. Everyone happy, healthy and settling in at home. So grateful @kanelambert,” she posted on Instagram alongside a black and white photo of her holding their child while recovering in a hospital bed.

It was revealed in October the pair were expecting their first child with Gelmi beginning her maternity leave in February.

Gelmi told The Herald Sun at the time it had not been an easy pregnancy.

“While it’s been a such special time, I’ve been quite unwell,” Gelmi told the News Corp publication.

“I could not have felt more supported by my work family at Seven and I am so grateful for the grace they’ve given me, especially during the Commonwealth Games.

“It’s been a very busy few months for us and we’re excited about what’s to come.”

Lambert represented the Richmond Tigers in 135 games after making his AFL debut in 2015, winning three premierships with the club.

The 31-year-old announced his retirement in July last following a string of injuries, but the all-Australian will stay with the club as a development coach.

Lambert received the Francis Bourke award at Richmond’s Jack Dyer Medal earlier this year, winning the prestigious accolade for a second time.

Gelmi and Lambert struck up a romance early in 2022 after the television presenter moved to Melbourne.

It came after Gelmi’s marriage breakdown with Sky Racing presenter Ben Way in 2020.
