OVP in talks with GSIS to acquire Coconut Palace as permanent office for VPs

MANILA, Philippines — The Office of the Vice President (OVP) is at present in talks with the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) to acquire the Coconut Palace as the permanent residence and office of the present and succeeding Vice Presidents.

Vice President Sara Duterte revealed the plan on Thursday in the course of the Senate finance committee listening to on the proposed P2.3 billion finances of the OVP for 2023.

“Right now, we’re speaking to GSIS of properties underneath them that may be donated or offered to the OVP as a permanent property of the OVP,” she mentioned.

“Right now, we’re taking a look at one property solely, and that’s the Coconut Palace,” Duterte added.

However, she clarified that the OVP continues to be taking a look at different authorities properties that may be given to the OVP as a permanent office.

Duterte added that the OVP has initially allotted P10 million for a downpayment for the property to safe the contract and can ask for further funds in the approaching years for multi-year funds for the property.

As to the Coconut Palace, she mentioned the GSIS has not but recognized an quantity for its acquisition.

The Coconut Palace was former Vice President Jejomar Binay’s office throughout his time period from 2010 to 2016.

The OVP desires to give successive vice presidents a “permanent home and office” to stabilize and reduce office prices.

The OVP is at present holding office in Mandaluyong City. Duterte’s predecessor, former Vice President Leni Robredo, in the meantime had an office on the Quezon City Reception House in New Manila in Quezon City.
