Letters on the West End Golf Course, DeSantis’ plan for teachers, more

Bring again golf to West End

David Whitley’s humorous column in The Sun in Aug. 18 factors out the want for more golf programs in Gainesville.

The West End Golf Club had a worthwhile golf course till the out-of-town proprietor determined to let it get run all the way down to be offered to an out-of-town developer, claiming golf was useless. Golf shouldn’t be useless; in actual fact, golf has gotten more in style in the final three years.

Alachua County would discover, if the zoning stays recreation, that the property could possibly be a nine-hole, lighted, fairly priced course. This course could be particularly suited for instruction, senior golfers and a fast recreation for all ages and talents. Add a driving vary and a clubhouse/sports activities bar and the West End golf course not solely would survive however thrive.

Join the West End Community Alliance for Recreation and Education (WECARE) and Friends of West End (FOWE) to maintain the golf course property zoning leisure.
